Can you tell us about your journey in design? What first inspired you to pursue this career?
Sabina Valieva
I was inspired to become an interior designer by my mother when I was around 13 years old. She suggested this profession, and I immediately loved the idea. It seemed unique and intriguing. Although I didn’t fully understand what the profession entailed at the time, I firmly decided that I would become an interior designer. I never strayed from this path, despite attempts by others to discourage me

How would you describe your design philosophy in three words?
Sabina Valieva
I strive to create timeless interiors that are thoughtfully crafted in every detail and designed to reflect each client’s character and personality. While I stay informed about trends, I don’t rely on them—true design should resonate with a client’s worldview, lifestyle, and individuality, something fleeting trends often overlook.
My approach is deeply personal. I believe interiors should enhance my clients’ happiness, improve their daily lives, and provide both comfort and aesthetic pleasure. My style isn’t easily recognizable because every project is tailored to individual needs—each space is as unique as the person it’s created for.
For me, a successful collaboration begins when the client and I share a common aesthetic vision. I also make it a priority to involve them in the creative process, ensuring they fall in love with their future home while refining their own artistic taste along the way.

Your work beautifully balances aesthetics and functionality. How do you approach this balance in your projects?
Sabina Valieva
When starting a project, I analyse the client’s main needs and define the function of each room, zone, and object. Only then do I align aesthetics and style to enhance functionality. I never prioritise aesthetics over functionality and ergonomics because I understand that the client will live in this space for years. Every room and item must meet their expectations for comfort and usability. Convenience is inseparable from visual aesthetics, but aesthetics are not the primary factor in creating a successful interior.

What are some of your biggest influences—whether from architecture, art, or fashion?
Sabina Valieva
I am inspired by designers from the mid-century modern era and earlier. Learning about the creators of iconic pieces and architectural objects that have become part of design history always fascinates me. This period offers a wealth of knowledge and inspiration. Many techniques and concepts from this era find their way into my projects. I am also inspired by contemporary art, Renaissance architecture, and classical painting.

Can you walk us through one of your most meaningful projects and the vision behind it?
Sabina Valieva
I would like to share three projects: “Paris Apartment,” “Colourful,” and “Knightsbridge.”
Paris Apartment: Designed for a client living between Milan and Moscow. The goal was to create a unified space in the spirit of Parisian eclecticism—a modern Parisian apartment with elements of classic and vintage design without adhering to a single style.
Colourful: This project was for a woman who uses her small 45 m² apartment as a weekday residence. She wanted a space that would energize her daily through visual impact. I used a vibrant colour palette and warm wood tones, incorporating mid-century modern elements. The bright colours visually envelop anyone inside, making the compact space feel welcoming.
Knightsbridge: The client has a strong character, high self-discipline, and an active lifestyle. I reflected these traits in the interior by using bold, stable forms, clear geometric lines, and contrasting colours. This combination created a masculine atmosphere that perfectly mirrors the client's personality.

What role do materials play in your design process? Do you have a favourite material or texture you love to work with?
Sabina Valieva
Materials play a crucial, defining role in my design process. They form the aesthetic and style of the space, beginning with tactile sensations and visual perceptions. I pay attention not only to colour and texture but also to durability and practicality. Recently, I have favoured metal, concrete, ceramics, and dark woods. I enjoy mixing these materials in contrasting combinations, ensuring that each texture complements the others.

Who are some designers, architects, or artists that have had a lasting impact on your work?
Sabina Valieva
Several iconic figures have profoundly influenced me: Isamu Noguchi (sculptor and designer), LeCorbusier (architect), Carlo Scarpa (architect and designer), and Charlotte Perriand (designer). These innovators revolutionised design in their time, and their works remain incredibly relevant today.

What’s one design trend you’re currently embracing? And one you think is here to stay?
Sabina Valieva
This year’s focus in interior design is on comfort, cosiness, and sustainability. The Japandi style remains popular in 2025. Balancing beauty and functionality is becoming increasingly prominent. Vintage pieces are also in demand, and colour palettes now feature sunny yellows and deep earth tones. I embrace the balance between aesthetics and functionality, with a preference for vintage elements that add unique charm. I believe the trend for sustainability will continue to grow and become a lasting priority in interior design.

If you could design for any space or client—past or present—what would it be and why?
Sabina Valieva
I dream of working on an old house or apartment with preserved historical elements—plaster moldings, original doors, parquet flooring, and exposed brickwork. High ceilings and panoramic windows would flood the space with natural light. I am drawn to the idea of blending old and new, preserving heritage while creating a comfortable, modern living space. Ideally, I would design this space for an artist or collector—someone who travels extensively, appreciates history, and would cherish a home filled with meaningful art and memories.
