What is your biggest source of inspiration for your art?

PAULA BOSCO

Although inspiration presents itself through many different channels to me, I’m significantly inspired by the transformative power of art. In essence, this means to me reshaping the traditional concept of beauty. I have always perceived beauty as a spiritual act. Not only just as a visual or physical quality but a state of being. In my vision, beauty is dynamic. It becomes a bridge between the material and spiritual, the ancient and modern, the individual and the collective experience of nature. The ability to use it as a medium to engage others and inspire them to embrace slowness, contemplation, reflection and connection with nature is what drives my practice.

How do you convey emotion through your artwork?

PAULA BOSCO

Color and texture are fundamental in my practice as they are central to how I create a sensory experience. The use of a muted, subdued palette reflect the colors found in nature, creating a connection to the natural world, the living Earth. These tones aim to evoke feelings of calmness and serenity, helping the viewer to feel more present and mindful, significantly influencing the emotional experience of the artwork. Texture, on the other hand, adds a tactile dimension, inviting the viewer to engage with the work more deeply. Even if artworks can’t be touched, texture generates a physical response while adding depth drawing the viewer in and encouraging them to explore the artwork more closely, which can create a sense of intimacy and connection. I strip away unnecessary distractions, encouraging viewers to experience the core essence of the piece by emphasizing simplicity, restraint, and material presence over complexity or excess.

What materials or mediums do you prefer to work with and why?

PAULA BOSCO

I advocate for a philosophy of nature consciousness while preserving and revaluing traditional practices as vital elements of our cultural heritage. Therefore, my practice is grounded in extensive material research and the application of botanical and mineral pigments. In terms of application methods, I adopt ancient artisanal methods such as hand printing, painting, dyeing, sewing, embroidery and hand weaving.

How do you stay creatively motivated and inspired?

PAULA BOSCO

I stay motivated by constantly learning, perfecting my skills and seeking new experiences, especially through artist residencies that challenge me to step outside my comfort zone and engage with different environments and ideas. Also, knowing that my art can evoke emotions and connect with others on a deeper level helps me stay connected to both my craft and my purpose.

If you could collaborate with any other artist or designer, who would it be and why?

PAULA BOSCO

I’ve always admire Cristian Mohaded’s work and would be incredible to collaborate with him. He’s an Argentine artist and designer who has always worked closely with artisans from our home country, exploring traditions, crafts, and local culture, developing and designing objects with a strong focus on materiality and artisanal techniques which I believe aligns pretty much with my vision. I hope one day we work together.

What’s your favourite piece of art (by another artist) and what draws you to it?

PAULA BOSCO

One of my favourite works is Magdalena Abakanowicz's Abakans. What draws me to these monumental, textured sculptures is their tactile presence and the way they evoke an organic, almost primal connection to nature. Their scale, combined with the intricacy of hand-woven fibre, creates a powerful contrast that reflects both fragility and strength—qualities I strive to convey in my own work.
