How did you get started in interior design photography, and what inspired you to pursue this field?

kasia

My mum used to run a beautiful B&B in the Polish countryside. My life was always filled with family life, delicious food, beautiful thoughtful interiors and vintage finds from flea markets. Although being a photographer wasn’t an obvious career choice for me, when it finally happened, shooting interiors just came naturally.

What is your most memorable photoshoot to date?

kasia

Probably this amazing barn conversion I photographed a couple of years ago, looking onto the marshes bordering the sea in Norfolk, photographed for Studio 29 Architects. Stunning property filled with textures, contrasting materials and its own weaving studio at the centre of it all.

Beautiful bathroom interior featuring a freestanding bathtub, vintage fireplace, wall art, and a Persian-style rug on a tiled floor.
Minimalist living room with neutral tones, wooden flooring, and a built-in bookshelf creating a serene, open atmosphere.

How do you handle challenges like varying lighting conditions and tight spaces in interior photography?

kasia

I shoot interiors predominantly with natural light and I think it gives them a certain look and feel. Light can be manipulated, blocked and bounced back into the room. It’s also important to go with the feel of the space. If it’s a moody interior, shoot it that way; bright and open, use all of the light flooding in.

When it comes to tight spaces, that’s always a bit tricky but it makes you look at the space a bit differently. I would concentrate on showcasing the materials, design elements and how they bring the space together.

How do you collaborate with interior designers, architects, or clients to ensure you capture their vision accurately?

kasia

It’s very important to make sure we are all on the same page when it comes to expectations for the photoshoot, what can be achieved on the day and the vision for the final images. Each client is different and clear communication is crucial.

I always hope that I’m being commissioned because the client likes my style but of course every project is unique and requires an individual approach. It’s a collaboration between all the parties.

I shoot tethered to my laptop so everyone can see the shots as soon as they’re taken and can then adjust any angles etc in real time so hopefully by the end of the shoot everyone already knows what they’re getting and is happy with the shots.

What do you see as emerging trends or innovations in interior design photography?

kasia

Probably the move towards video, blending still photography with moving image to showcase the final project. It’s a great skill to be able to do both well.

What do you do when you’re not working?

kasia

Having a two year old means we don’t have time for anything else at the moment! Being a first time mum and working for myself has thrown a lot of challenges my way and we are still figuring it all out. I do love reading and spending time in my garden, it gives me a sole focus and takes my mind away from things, even if just for a little while. I also enjoy all manner of creative hobbies including textiles, knitting, crocheting and weaving.

What is your favourite hotel in the world?

kasia

I must say, I haven’t been travelling much in the last couple of years but in the UK, I love the feel and design of places like Artist Residence, The Pig or Hauser & Wirth.
