What's your first memory of designing a place?

CAROLINA AMoROS

My earliest memory of designing a place goes back to childhood. I was captivated by the unique charm of homes, their décor, and how each one seemed to tell a story. This fascination led me to rearrange rooms and imagine new layouts for our family home, experimenting with how colours, furniture, and light could change the atmosphere. This early passion grew over the years, ultimately guiding me to pursue an architecture and interior design career to bring these creative visions to life for others.

The most important thing you've designed to date?

CAROLINA AMoROS

The most important thing I’ve designed to date is my own studio. Designing this space has been a pivotal moment in my career, allowing me to create an environment that truly reflects my design philosophy. It’s not just a workspace; it’s a vital point of inspiration where I can experiment with ideas and materials. This studio also serves as a tangible representation of my journey as an architect and interior designer, emphasising the importance of crafting spaces that enhance well-being and creativity for both myself and my clients.

What constitutes great design?

CAROLINA AMoROS

Great design balances form and function, where aesthetics meet purpose. It’s about creating spaces that evoke emotion and feel natural to inhabit, blending beauty with usability. For me, great design also reflects the personality of those who live in the space, making it unique and timeless. It considers every detail—from the textures and materials to the play of light and shadow—crafting an environment that enhances the quality of life and endures over time.

What do you wish clients knew before engaging an interior designer?

CAROLINA AMoROS

I wish clients understood the value of a well-defined vision and the patience needed for the design process. Creating a truly personalised space takes time, from developing an initial concept to selecting materials and ensuring every detail is just right. Trusting in this process allows us to deliver a home that not only looks beautiful but also reflects their lifestyle and values. It’s about more than aesthetics; it’s a journey of collaboration to bring their ideal space to life.

Favourite material to work with:

CAROLINA AMoROS

My favourite material to work with is natural stone. Its timeless quality, unique textures, and organic variations bring depth and elegance to any space. Stone not only adds a sense of permanence but also connects the design to nature, grounding the space and adding a tactile richness that ages beautifully over time.

Penthouse or townhouse:

CAROLINA AMoROS

Both are equally inspiring to me. Each has its own unique charm—penthouses offer open layouts, natural light, and stunning views, while townhouses provide character, history, and a strong connection to the surroundings. I find it exciting to work with the possibilities and challenges each space presents, designing them to reflect the essence of the place and the lifestyle of those who live there.

On your coffee table right now:

CAROLINA AMoROS

Right now, my coffee table holds a mix of design books, a few architecture magazines for inspiration, a handcrafted ceramic vase, and a candle to bring warmth to the space. I like keeping items that not only inspire me but also add a personal, curated touch to my surroundings.

Top 3 suppliers you love working with:

CAROLINA AMoROS

I love working with Cotlin for their wide selection of rugs and fabrics, as well as their outstanding customer service. Yutes is another favourite, offering an exquisite selection of natural textiles made in Spain that bring warmth and elegance to my projects. Lastly, I have a wonderful relationship with an antique dealer in the Empordà, where I often find beautifully restored pieces that we adapt to fit our designs, adding a touch of history and uniqueness to our interiors.

Favourite hotel in the world:

CAROLINA AMoROS

Azulik in Tulum is my favourite because it embodies the essence of a truly transformative hotel experience. It’s not just about the stunning design and natural materials; it’s a place that allows you to disconnect from the outside world. When you arrive, you feel enveloped by the surroundings, which fosters a sense of peace and well-being. The atmosphere invites you to forget your worries and embark on a fascinating journey towards inner tranquillity, making every moment spent there rejuvenating and transformative.

Design hero:

CAROLINA AMoROS

My design hero is Kelly Wearstler I admire her bold use of colour, texture, and eclecticism, which pushes the boundaries of traditional design. Her ability to blend different styles and periods while creating cohesive and striking interiors is truly inspiring. Wearstler's fearless approach encourages me to explore unexpected combinations and think outside the box, reminding me that design can be both functional and an expressive art form. While she stands out as a contemporary hero, I have many others who inspire me in different ways throughout my journey.
